Fluoride Varnish

fluoride-varnishFluoride varnish is a highly concentrated form of fluoride which is applied to the surface of your teeth. This adheres to your tooth and is able to stay on your tooth surface for several hours or even days. It is applied to your tooth to remineralize the tooth surface and to treat dentin hypersensitivity. Fluoride varnish is used to help prevent tooth decay.

When fluoride varnish is applied to the surface of a tooth, it treats hypersensitivity quickly. It sets rapidly on contact with saliva and results in quick patient comfort. Fluoride varnish leaves a thin film on the teeth after it has been applied.
Fluoride varnish, when applied to teeth, works by increasing the concentration of fluoride on the outer surface of your teeth. This enhances the fluoride uptake in early stages of demineralization. The fluoride varnish hardens on the teeth as soon as it comes in contact with saliva, allowing it to be in contact with your teeth for extended period of time. The benefits of fluoride varnish are greatest for people with moderate or high risk for demineralization or tooth decay.
